Hi can anyone let me know where on the engine the vacuum pump is? Mine was diagnosed as being bad at the dealer and they want $910 to fix it! Sounds like some RTV and some time and I can fix it myself this afternoon.

On the passenger side, on the front of engine is where it is located. It bolts to timing chain cover.
RTV will not fix it but a repair kit for a Volvo 3.2 litre inline 6 will. The 3.2 engine would be in a 2007-2014 Volvo XC90 as well as some others. The pipe that attaches to pump can be tricky to get disconnected.

5 years ago, on page 3 of this thread, i posted about sealing the cover with rtv sealant. my pump has not leaked again since.

+1 to that. I followed your advice 15 months ago and still good!

I have had the repair kit already outlive the original life of the original.
I tried several RTV formulas and had some success but some leaked. Gray high torque seems the best I have no comebacks on seal kit repairs. You can use RTV on your own car but I can't do that in a shop when I have seen it fail.
The repairs have been on BMW and other makes using that pump. The N62 has the pump up front and it likely runs cooler and may have better success. RTV is great unless the components change shape and especially if the motion is shear.

You need to be careful and not use much. The pump discharges into inside of engine when it takes in any air as it pumps out brake booster.
