No. According to BMW white paper on E60 adaptive transmission, when the car senses the drive driving in performance mode, it'll switch to sport mode, and vice versa. That's why it's called "Adaptive Transmission". Nothing fancy.

v.17 seems smooth and reasonably responsive. DS is definately "point and shoot".
I think both modes work in the correct sense and feeling. No complaints here.

I agree. The other thing I've found is that now I can accellerate slowly from a stop. Before just touching the gas would launch me. That was OK if I was alone in the car but usually not appreciated by passengers.

I like the Before - brisk acceleration much better than the current setup. I'm trying to book an appointment to get next version and hopefully that will cure this issue.

Yes, it's more relaxed and has better gas mileage but I didn't get this car for these reasons

I agree with you that we have these rockets for the same reasons but I still like the option of relaxed and efficient or the rocket.

Hey does anyone know how you check to see what version you have?

D mode is crap, the car really accelerates like shit. It is the worst possible compromise. It's like driving a turbo.

I keep the car is DS all the time, it's what I paid all that money for. Not for the car to be in 6th gear while I am driving at 60 km/hr.

The downside? I have to put it in D while I am driving on the highway, and the terrible gas mileage. And sometimes the car likes to hold onto the revs, without downshifting to a better gear while cruising.
