I really like most of the features of the new USB/AUX iPod adapter on my LCI '08 550i. It is better than the iPod adapter functions that were in my '06 650i.

There is one thing I dislike. Everytime I start the car, it goes into a "now playing" menu and only displays the one song. I can skip forward through whatever playlist it happens to be on but I can't really use the playlist like normal.
If I go up to playlists and select whichever I had been listening to its like starting over.
Is this normal? Is there a way for it to go straight into the last playlist/song it was on?

Hi Richard,

Mine does the same thing, drives me mad! It would appear to be a fault in the software which has no memory of the playlist it was in when the car has powered down.

I am hoping that there may be a software fix in the future.

It's by design I guess. The car probably stores just the id of the song and not if it comes from an album, artist, song, genre or playlist. It would make more sense if it continued exactly where you left it.

I wouldn't be so concerned about it if my 650i didn't work properly. It always was able to restart at a playlist where it last left off. Although, it started songs over. Maybe enough folks with "books on iPod" complained about having to listen to stuff over again that they changed it for '08. I honestly don't recall if songs now start over because I usually let a good song finish when I get home.

With the iPod adapter in my X3, it goes to a "now playing" type of list so I guess that must be what BMW thinks is right.
