Just had to add oil for the 3rd time to the car before the first service. This time, the dealer added 2 quarts. This time, it got to the warning point where it advised not to drive the car until oil was added - WOW.

If I wasnt leasing this car, I'd be really concerned. This seems a bit ridiculous, if you ask me, after just 9300 miles.

They do have a habit of eating a bot of opil for the first 10,000 miles.

After that it stops, I have not had to top up between services at all since 10,000.

Did you break the car in properly?

I thought mine was bad. I just had to have oil added today, this is the second time in one year that oil had to be added between oil changes.

That doesn't sound good. My experience has been the opposite. My new engine gulped down maybe about 1/2 a quart during break-in, then I had the oil changed. I've had subsequent oil changes now at 10,000 miles and 17,500 miles and the oil level has been stable throughout ... I check that virtual dip stick frequently.

You should have your dealership look into it.

It's ok, don't worry : my car was serviced 10k miles ago and the level is still on the max
Now it has 22k miles, I changed the oil at 11k .

Your usage sounds like it is more than is typical. I had about 3/4 of a quart added by the dealership when I got the low oil message at about 10,500 miles . I had the oil changed shortly after that.

I would have your dealership check it.

I second the opinions of not to worry about it.

I have an 06 525xi and have had to add about 1/2 to 1 Qt between service intervals (odo=21K miles). My dealer says that aggressive driving tends to burn more oil than normal and that this level of oil consumption is normal with engines that use synthetic oil. I have a similar experience with my ML320 that uses synthetic oil as well.

Come to think about it - we change the oil on a normal engine every 3-6K miles and top it off then. Personally, I feel that 1/2 - 1 Qt for about 10K miles isn't too shabby!
