My Ride: 11 550i Sophisto Gray/Oyster Black/Anthracite, Sprt Trns, DHP, IAS, SP, PP1, PP2, CWP, HUD, DAP, AVSP, SF RS, CA, ACC - Euro Del
The fold down rear seat option works really well. The latch is in the trunk. One on each side. You simply open the the lever and the seats easily flip forward. No mucking around with headrests or seatbelts. The split is 2/3 and 1/3. This turns my e60 into a mini-station wagon. Very practical, great working option.

I've had them on my last three 5 Series cars. I can't live without them. I'm not sure why BMW even wastes time designing two versions -- the fold-down seats should be standard...

Yeah, but isn't it more expensive for them to design, engineer, supply, build, etc. two choices? It adds complexity to the processes involved with building the car.
You would think just from a supplier standpoint alone, BMW could get a better price per seat by purchasing a larger quantity of one style rather than a lesser quantity of two styles...

I thought carefully about getting the fold down rear seats. When I looked at them in person, I realized BMW moved the cup holders in the armrest in the fold down design. That means I can't put the V-1 detector in the armrest if I have them. I REALLY don't know if I will make that modification but I sure like the thought that I can! I sat in both seats and there was a difference in padding as well.

Biggest mistake in not getting folding seats in my last Audi. So it was a MUST for the E60.
