Unknown substance on door

It seems like most of you are talking about the residual Cosmoline that usually drips down and leaves greasy marks on areas such as the sideskirts. However, if you look at the picture carefully it seems like these stains are in the mid section of the door right below the Shadowline trim (below the window). So to me it does not look like it could be grease or Cosmoline. It looks like something has etched the clear coat and there may not be a way to remove it completely. Here's the picture again:

He said it was the sill. Cosmoline is the name of the stuff I was thinking of not waxol.

If it's just the Cosmoline then no... it will clean off. The paint and clear coat should be fine. I had this on all my new BMWs and it will happen less over time. If its cosmoline, you can look for the drain where this is coming from and wipe the drain after you wash the car. See my photo to help you find the drain. On my E53 and E39 the drain was hidden behind the door seal. My E36/7 has the drain in plain sight.
