I've been browsing over in another forum's e90/e92 section. They are falling head over heel for the new 335. Some are insisting that it is faster than 550. I did a cursory search for the 335 here and Cobradav mentioned a time of 0 - 60 in 5.3. I know that after following Znod's performance threads that the 545 can achieve better times than 5.3. No one has yet posted any empirical data on the 550, but I'm sure it can achieve on the average 5.1. It really looks like a race between a 550/335 would be a driver's race. Agree?

It's hard to say until we see the 335 but I agree. One thing I think the E90/E92 has against it for its size is the weight. Those puppies are as heavy as an E60. The E60 has a wider track that may help it in the turns over the E90/E92 but at speeds over 80-100mph the E90/E92 would have an advantage with less drag.

The E90 330i weighs 3400lbs. The E60 550i weighs 3800lbs.

At low speeds, I'd expect the new 335 coupe to keep up or walk a 550 due to its weight advantage.
At high speeds, I'd expect the 550 to walk the new 335 coupe due to its power and torque advantage.

BTW, the thing that most interests me about the new 335 is the "tune-ability" of the turbos. Will it be as easy to mod as a 996TT or an EVO? Imagine a Stage 4 335i pushing 600hp!

Hmm.. I would gather the 1/4 mile to be the best gauge for what is faster. In that regard wouldn't the 550 win out?

I'm sure that the 335 turbo can/will be tuned to some outrageous hp/torque numbers. But in the context of this thread let's keep it stock vs stock.

Yeah, I agree completely with everything you've said.

The 335i will be insanely popular in the US. Pretty easily attainable, and the kids will chip the hell out of them - it will be trivial to get those engines at 360+ without damaging anything. All for peanuts. Sub-$1000 for a chip mod.

What's the spec on the 335 and when is it available? I'm lazy to look.

IMO the 335 will be just slightly faster overall than the 550i. On a track for sure it will be faster. On a drag race, i dunno, i'm willling to bet on the 335i....maybe?
