Is that the sill? If it is then it's normal. My E36/7 did that too. I would clean the drain on the door to keep it from mucking up the sills after a wash. I think it's just some waxol or whatever BMW uses.

it is perhaps the top clear layer of paint that is slightly "eaten" out....
use SONAX Abrasive paste. I've bought it in Germany few weeks ago actually . Works like magic..... all the dents are gone now.....
