All this talk of turbo failures is getting me down...just wondering how common it actually is?

Bet most of the problems are down to the oil change interval...

Has there been a poll on here in the past? Or is now a good time to do one?

Perhaps you'd better let BMW know...

This was my thought exactly. I was shocked to learn when my car went in for the I-drive requested oil change at 40 thousand kms and 2 years old that this was the FIRST oil change. Had I known I would have aked them to change the oil earlier. In my book long oil change intervals and turbos just don't mix.

91K and the turbo blew last night, well I think so....loss of power and white smoke?? I will drop it into the dealer Tuesday morning when we are picking up my wife's new e92 coupe. I am not driving meantime but if driven moderately over short distances will engine suffer any harm?

Luckily its a company car so I don't have to foot the bill. Still we run our own fleet company of about 10,000 vehicles and they will have the cost which is a shame as it will go in early June when my new 535dSE arrives.
