The other day my trunk stopped to open electrically... I went to the garage and they knew inmediately what it was. From opening and closing the trunk, the cable boom bents and bents over and over again until a few cables break. They said they had lots of 5 series in allready with the same problem. They made the cables longer and problem solved. Anyone else had this problem¿

I had the same problem but mine was worse! my back seat doesn't fold, i have a trunk finisher and i couldn't get to the key hole so the only way i could get the trunk to open to get it repaired was to remove the finisher!

Yep, common problem. Happened to my '04 545i. Also a common problem with the E46 3-series and probably others as well.

Wow, that´s a real bummer! That´s why I never cover keyholes from doors and trunks in my cars... You never need them untill you need them....

True, I had that going on as well! Because of those 2 things together the mecanic instantly knew what it was.

So such a common problem and has there never been a recall for this? Strange..... Luckily I have a good relation with my dealer and he fixed it at no cost...

I'm definitely not in the habit of resurrecting 5 year old threads...but am making an exception because I did not find any newer ones on this important topic. At least it's important to me, as it just happened to me.

2010 528i trunk lid stopped opening using any buttons in the car or the key button. The only way to open was to use the valet key. I replaced the actuator...no change. Started searching the web and found a bunch of old threads talking about the wiring that goes from the trunk lid down through the hollow trunk hinge arm and into the main wiring harness. Apparently these wires are very prone to break at the point where the wires come out of the bottom of the hinge arm.

So I removed the insulation tape from the wires right at that location and found 2 wires completely broken. Temporarily tied wires together, and the trunk works good. Now figuring out how to best fix it so it hopefully won't happen again.

BYW...a big thanks to all the people who posted about this in the past!
