The codes are definitely mechanical. You have corrected all the electrical/pressure issues. It is hard to destroy these transmissions but if it was driven hard and long on the dysfunctional VB it is a great possibility that is wore out the shaft. My cars VB was acting up for 5 years and I put around 70K on the trans before I fixed it but then again my wife drove it those 70K because I knew my driving would make it worse.

How did you reset the adaptions? Was there any slippage before the fix?

I had issues with the car for about 2 years. It currently has 116k miles and before the VB rebuild, i would have issues on Drive only but if I switched it to DS or manual the car would run great until about a month or two ago it started to get worse (my tech said that i was loosing pressure due to worn out pressure regulators, so the installed over size ones to alleviate the issue & replaced solenoids, etc..). I reset the adaptions using the DIS software. Before the VB rebuild i had all sorts of codes but after i installed it and reset everything I keep getting the codes I listed in my previous response. It's really odd because once i active "sport mode" on Drive it drives fine. It's only when I drive it on Drive (normal) i get the stupid error code. The tech who rebuild the VB is saying that my E drum shaft could be worn out but i find it hard to believe because the car drives fine in DS or manual or Drive with "sport mode" activated.

I hope you are having a good day.

I have an E60 2005 525i, it has a transmission problem. It does exactly this

and when the car is going down a slope and I stop and try to go in reverse it just go a little bit but then it wont go no more in reverse. But if I go into reverse in a normal street after restart the car it goes perfect in reverse. So reverse just has problem when I try against a slope or when the car has to use extra power in reverse.

So do you think that if a replace the solenoids it will fix those problem? what do you think that I have to do?

errors codes: 4f89,4f95, 4f85

btw; I already changed oil and pan (febi oil) but it got worse.

I hope you can help me.

How long has it been doing that for? This is classic 6HP19 behavior. I think a few members here have been able to source rebuilt valve bodies for only slightly more than what a set of solenoids costs. I am very confident you have valve body problems, and yes most likely the shift solenoids in the valve body are shot. If I were in your shoes today I would do the following:

-Replace valve body with a rebuilt unit that also has a fresh set of solenoids installed
-Replace four sealing sleeves
-Replace 'bridge' seal
-Replace Mechatronic sealing sleeve
-Drain and fill gearbox with ZF Lifeguard6
-Reset adaptations

I bet that would fix the problem for you. There is a slight chance that the input shaft bearing is worn, that's a known weak point that can cause slip codes too. But I still put my money on valve body/solenoids

Good luck

Thank you KyleB

It been doing that for 3 month. A mechanic checked the car and said that the reverse unit is the problem, but I'm not sure of that. I'm thinking in buy a rebuilt VB but I'm in Panama I don't know where I can buy it. Some can help me with?

I would pull yours out and just have it rebuilt. That way you get a lifetime warranty. KyleB has a DIY that I have posted the information in. This is only if you can do without your car for a week.

It is hard to find VBs for these cars they go real quick when posted online.

Thanks Sean,

I'm thinking in two options:

1. Send my valve body to USA to get rebuild. or
2. Buy the Sonnax zip kit, solenoid.
-Replace four sealing sleeves
-Replace 'bridge' seal
-Replace Mechatronic sealing sleeve
-Drain and fill gearbox with ZF Lifeguard6
-Reset adaptations
as Kyle said.

I have heard about the zip kit but after you spend the money for it you do not get a lifetime warranty nor will you get your VB pressure tested with new improved gaskets (which only they can do because they have the expensive tools to take the VB apart). Sonnax will rebuild it for you with a lifetime warranty. That is the easiest way to go at least in my book. I wanted to make sure 100% that the VB was not my issue after being done with the fix. Yes I know that the car will be inop until you get the VB back but it was an easy choice for me. Like I said before I do not like doing things more than once.
