Is there a way to know what version software your tranny is running or if there are newer version that fix some of the know issues with the E60 - especially my year '04 530i?

Unless you have INPA capable laptop and cable, the dealer can check. The reprogram is 1 to 2 hours labor, although sometimes more if your car needs it. It's usually a bulk dump (whole car update) they want to do, so hopefully you could just get a transmission-only programming. I had mine done under CPO- it took 6 hours to do the whole car.

What kind of issues would cause you to think you need the Transmission reprogrammed? Thanks in advance!

Tranny? Well I don't know if you can check your EGS though the instrument cluster or "hidden OBC" but worth a try. If you take it to the $tealer you're looking at about $350. For less than half of this you can do it yourself.
