update:

its been about 3-4 weeks since my car went in to the shope for this. software update fixed it. but it came back this morning.

I know there has been a lot of threads on this, but i pose a new question:

If it is in fact the transmission and not a software issue, how the hell does a software update fix it for a short period of time?

i would guess that when you update to new software transmision resets. same as if you do 25 seconds thing.

Is this in reference to the slam you get when you first turn on the car, or shift into your first gear or (D) ?

when the car is cold, and you pull up to your first stop sign in D, if you do a full stop and then hit the gas pedal, there is a maybe half second delay followed by a jerk.

Man that sucks. I don't know why BMW still hasn't addressed the problem. There are numerous cases for 2004 models, they should have fixed it before 2008!

Software is just a "band-aid" fix, the real problem is in the transmission, I think the dealer just updates the software in the HOPE that it keeps the transmission from slamming, and therefore cost them MUCH less money!

I read that all these problems stem from BMW engineers wanting to get the most MPG out of the trannies or something... Is this true?

i have it too. i learned to live with it though since almost all 545 owners have it seems to be normal.

after stop i wait until the engine stops and then press the gas. otherwise it will jerk while doing rolling stop.. i know this is annoying but so far noone completely fixed it.

software update and 25 sec trick helped but it still coming back..

i wish they had a recall on this one. so as a coming to a stop jerk.
