Smile Transmission Malfunction Solved

I've owned this car since nearly new. Right from the start the transmission would bang when accelerating from not quite a complete stop. The dealer could never find any problem. About a year ago the car would feel funny when shifting from 3d to 4th and the transmission malfunction light would come on. It went away when the car was shut down. I took it to the dealer the only thing found was low transmission fluid which was topped off. This did not solve problem. I changed oil and filter/pan. This still did not solve the problem. Transmission warning light would not go away once. This time my friend hooked it to his computer and we drove it. The computer told us it was a shift solenoid. I ordered a pressure regulator kit from ZF. I installed the kit, changed the oil and relearned the transmission. Now theres no bang and no transmission warning. I feel like she drives better than new. Gas mileage is back up and she drives like a rocket.

Congrats!! I would rather use my personal mechanic than taking the car to a dealer.

darnell, for the benefit of others, post the error codes, part number of the part(s) replaced, and related pictures, if any.

darnell - could you give us more details, exactly what PCY is asking -

I'm having some trans issue too, it would slam while cruising at random speed, and especially when the A/C is on. Jerks when shifting from 3rd to 4th or coming back from 4th to 3rd.

Hopefully this will help me resolve the transmission problem too.

The error codes were: P17E8 Mod $18 Manufacturer Control Transmission and P17E8 Pb with same description. The part number was 1068 298 044 01 Pressure regulator kit. I just gave my vin to Klause at the CTSC (The California Transmission Supply Company) and he told me which kit I needed. It came with detailed instructions and pictures. I hope this helps.
