just my two pennies worth but the roof looked a bit distorted to me. Doesn't take much to do that. Had it happen to me last year in a Ford. If it is and given the rest of it. It could well be totalled.

Man this sucks! I'm glad to hear you and the growing family are all OKAY, and that the car did it's job in protecting you, so you could walk away from the accident. So assuming the car is totaled (and I hope it is), what's the next car going to be??? Perhaps an M to go with those wheels??

i went to the hospital today and got checked out about 20 different xrays, everything is OK, so I shifted all the attention on getting the car totaled. I went to my salesman, sales manager and asked for their help. They actually called me this morning and left messages making sure I was OK, they were al little shocked when they got to work today and saw my car there.

I also spoke with the body shop manager, they did a preliminary report and put it at $16,000. But he is going to go back and check, he thinks that a frame rail may need to be replaced and if so the labor to remove engine/tranny etc. should push it to totaled.

I spoke to him about the effects of driving a repaired car, not to insult his mechanics, but the loss in value since there was such heavy damage. He said that if it isn't totaled that I should discuss "diminished value" with them.

I hope the sales dept really puts pressure on them to find every dollar they can to total it.

I guarantee it will cost ALOT more than $16K. My preliminary assessment was $26K and after completion the total bill was $42K!!! They will not even get close to a decent assessment until they do a complete tear down.

its probably not totaled. especially when the car is new.

they usually consider it totaled if the repair cost is higher than the current value of the car.

It may not be totalled, but what you said about the repair cost having to be more than the current value is not accurate. Most insurance companies will total a car if the repair cost will exceed 75-80% of the car's value. They do this because there is always some wiggle room in the estimate which body shops always "tend" to underestimate initially.

I won't even look until I know what they are going to do. I don't want to get the hopes up, but I do have my sales guys and sales manager, that have known for a long time that I really like the 7er, more specifically, the B7 they had a couple months ago. This morning I had 2 sales guys and the sales manager leave me voicemails checking on me to see if I was OK and if there was anything they could do. They know they are going to get a new sale if I can get rid of this one.

Thanks,

Brian

Wow, that's terrible. Glad to see that you are ok. I smell a lawsuit coming on. Take the guy that hit you for everything he has and buy yourself a new M5.

wow im sorry to see your car get banged up like that. Most of all im glad you are ok. Hopefully they will total it because you will lose a lot of value on that car if its fixed.
