Greetings browelly

Yes, I have been lurking a bit but I was also in Austria for a couple of months in the summer with the family & car and minimal internet access enforced a bit of quietness on this board.

The trip was what started my latest spat with BMW UK because, of couse, TMC works just great in my car everywhere in Europe and I was p'eed off that it did not work here in the UK. BMW's response can be summed up as "well we never intended it to be released as part of the BizNav package in the UK and, by the way, when we do get around to fixing it we will charge you to get it working".

That was a red rag to the bull in front of this monitor coming, as it did, from one of their customer service managers in BMW Bracknell. I've told them I would rather take them to court (and I will) than pay one penny for that which I've already handsomely paid for. As I pointed out, if they never intended to release this functionality as part of the Nav package in the UK, then why is its operation so clearly described in the Owner's Manual?

Grrrr.... stay tuned.

TMC was activated on my sept 03 530dA with Bus Nav about a month ago by Beham's in Wolverhampton. I have sw version 13.3 and it works fine set to Auto, even works without DVD in slot... of cousre without dvd in it cannot flag up delays on your specified route or offer dynamic route planning. Currently using with 2004-2 dvd.

I have the Business Satnav & 2004-1 DVD. My car was registered 31st Dec 2003. I
do not know my current software level, but TMC does not appear anywhere in the I drive menu's, so I guess I need an upgrade. It is mentioned in the handbook but has asterisks all over it, saying it is only available on certain cars etc. TP is OK, but no TMC. This may be a dumb question, but do BMW charge for the upgrade ? & if so how much in the Uk! Would any other benefits make it worthwhile, eg letting me fold the electric mirrors from Key.
PS I'm quite new here but have picked up many useful tips, great forum, thanks.

Do not allow BMW to charge you for this s/w upgrade.

It enables many features that are advertised but don't work on you current s/w level, including the folding mirrors you mentioned.

Be prepared that the upgrade will take AT LEAST one day (it fails quite often), and you will lose any presets, saved nav addresses etc.

I can't remember, but you may need the 2004-2 disc for for it to work as well. But this is available from sources other than your dealer.

I think any of the 2004 DVD's will enable TMC.
