Hi, I just put some replica #166s on my new 2007 530i. Very beautiful.
As I was told to expect, the sensor light showed a malfunction for the new tire pressure sensors.

I went to the dealer (South BMW, Miami), and I asked them to turn the sensor off (I do not want new sensors put on because I already had my new tires high speed balanced on a Hunter machine, and I do not want to get the sensors until I change tires again).

The dealer told me they were not sure whether it was possible to disable the sensor due to potential law suits arising out of Firestone (I thought that Firestone dealt with blow outs).

Then, they told me that they could not give me an answer ahead of time as to whether BMW would allow the sensors to be disabled (unless I left my car there for the day). They told me that the only thing that they could do was to take the car and hook the car up to a computer, and it would send signals to a BMW center where an answer would be produced.

I thought that the dealer was full of %$# in stating that it could not tell me ahead of time whether BMW would allow me to disable the sensor.

Has anyone ever dealt with this issue?

You can just turn the RPA (tire pressure warning) off from the I-Drive / Vehicle Settings menu. BTW nice wheels.

I believe that there is a federal Law in the US mandating Tire Pressure Monitoring. Therefore they would not be able to turn it off legally.

No the dealer this time is not full of crap. US regulations are hard. If the car is equipped with tire sensor it HAS to be on. Not sure if its enforced yet now but later in 2007 or 2008 it will be. So the dealer cannot legally turn it off.

If you think you had problems. I had problems with my Lexus dealer turning off my Day time running lights and thats not even a law yet!!!! They gave me a similiar speal that you got. "WE cant do that.... blah blah blah blah" Told me to go talk to Lexus of North America. I argued that its not the law yet and I bought the car so forth and such and they will not do it. Pisses me off.

Unfortunately, I do not think that you can turn the warning off. I tried to do that. You can reset the program, but when the program senses no sensors in the tires, it shows a malfunction again.

Any other thoughts? Can this be done by a non-authorized BMW repair shop?

Maybe I can pull a fuse out....lol.

Here's what you can do -- put all four sensors in some sort of airtight container and pump the container up to whatever pressure the tires are supposed to be set to. Put the container in the trunk and bingo, no more warnings!

We all have tire sensor equipped? I thought e60 does not have tire sensor, when the pressure is low, the system detect by how the tire rotate different than the others.

Well, I am happy that my e60 is not a 2007.
Does 2007 e60 needs to replace tire sensor when they replace tires every time?

The sensors are mounted in the wheels -- you don't need to do anything if you just change tires but if you change wheels, you have to mount the sensors in the new wheels, which monacobmw didn't do, it seems...
