just wanted to know if i have a problem where my 2004 530d isn't reaching the right temp. you all know the white dashed line thing that moves up from your redline on the rev counter based on the temp of the engine. well the principle of it is so its a dynamic recommended redline that you shouldn't exceed until your car has heated up enough,
however mine never goes completely down/disssapears behind the actual red line, it always stays around 7 dashes up no matter how long/hard i drive my car, i have accesed the hidden menu and my car sits at 89 degrees Celsius, i think this is high enough so shouldn't it go away? i know that if i had an automatic tranny when in d mode it wouldn't rev past the dashed(recommended redline) unless you put it into ds mode driver sport, i have a manual transmission so should i not rev it out till the red(real redline) even though its properly heated?
sorry for the long hard to understand post.

I do not think it is supposed to ever go away. In the 545, you always have four dashes. So, I treat this as a yellow line, not a redline. You should probably avoid entering the yellow (caution) zone on a regular basis, but it is still safe to do so occasionally. The engine management system will cut off the fuel if you stray beyond the red line. It will definitely get your attention when it does this.
