My TCU was recently replaced due to failure. I heard that TCU is essential for bluetooth, and with older TCUs you can't activate bluetooth (my car is 12/03 build). Since TCU was replaced, do you think it will be possible to just activate bluetooth with software upgrade? What other functions can I gain with TCU upgrade?
Thanks! Any documents supporting this would really help.

Yes, if they replaced it with a new one. I remember my dealer had problems with my TCU and told me they would probably need to replace it but at the end of the day they somehow fixed the problem.

They should have activated it for you when doing the initial programming on the new TCU.

So, you are saying I should have bluetooth capability right now?

You now have the right hardware for Bluetooth, need dealer coding now. I believe they had to upgrade your software already just to get the new TCU in. You will not be able to use a cradle however, as I believe you are missing a wire in your older configuration. But still you should be all the really necessary functionality.

OK, great, what do I need to do to see if it works?
I believe they updated the software to make sure TCU is working properly.
What other features new TCU enables?

Check out the link in my signature - it has all the nitty gritty on upgrading the older builds to make BT work.
