Glad the pics helped.

I got the impression David said these plate were new and not previously available...but he definitely acknowledged they were the "larger plate". He automatically suggested that I needed an O-ring because the newer flaps didnt have O-ring that could simlpy be removed and used on the blanking plates. He is right cos the orange/red coloured seals on the swirl flaps were housed within the cylindrical flap housing and not removable.

Do you need these plates Bob because you have used the dremmel/screw method to remove your flaps already? I figured rather than buying a dremmel, these plate cost about the same and less of an headache to install (glue dry time, re-installing flap if unhappy with performance etc).

good luck

Kaz
I have a leak where the cylinder fits into the manifold (i noticed it before i deflapped the manifold but didnt give it a second thought), rather than taking it off and trying to seal with sealant where the orange rubber isnt doing its job I would prefer to bite the bullet and stick the plates on. Dont get me wrong there is nothing wrong with the self tapping screw and glue method, god knows it has given me complete peace of mind since i did it thanks again to Anzafin. If it werent for the leak i would just leave the cylinders in place, but to be honest I want to get the leak fixed once and for all. The other option is a new manifold which would probably cost about ?4-500, so the price of the plates is way cheaper.

Bob

Okay, yeah that should do the trick. If you get round to doing it first...perhaps you could share your experience on this thread.

I reckon I will be "plating" in 3 weeks or so when I'm on annual leave, so watch this space.

Well thats me just finished fitting my shinny new blanking plates, I started at about 10 and finished at 12. I recon I could remove my inlet manifold with a blindfold on now . They do finish the job nicely, at ?109 delivered they arent cheap but I did have a slight leak there anyway.

Good work, I too didn't need Anzafin's instructions the second time and "had it off" within 30 minutes. I guess your leak is sorted. Just been reading the thread on "cracked exhaust manifolds". When will these problems ever stop ? Should we be worried?

I know the feeling, buying one of these cars was a real eye opener. I am surprised by how much I have spent since i got the car, my current bugbear is the phantom flat tyre warnings. Its a major PITA, I dont take it seriously now but i do always check the pressures.

Regarding the mainfold, my father is a welder so I guess if i need to I can call on his expertise.

Does make you wonder doesnt it, I bought a 9yr old Ford Sierra XR4x4 2.9i some years back when I was a youngster for ?600.00 , in 6 years all it cost me was fuel, tyres and brake pads, makes me cringe when I consider how much I spent already just on servicing etc
