I drive a 2007 530d. On rare occassions when the sun shines on this damp island I get to use my sunroof. Sometimes, without opening the glass sunroof, I just slide the cover back to let some light in. With the cover slid back the cabin noise levels increase considerably. There is an offensive level of wind noise. Is this normal? I've checked seals and glass roof seating and all seem OK.

The other half drives a Toyota Amazon and when you slide the sun roof cover back in that there is no change in internal noise levels.

I've noticed this on my car too! Wondered if one of those wind deflectors would help. Not sure how that will look though...

got that 'increase' wind noise. Nothing bad but noticeable, but when shileld is closed everything is quiet again. i tried many 'panoramic' roof 5 series while looking for buying my car and they all had it.
I think the glass thickness is thin...and joint are not outstanding, so it is noisier. lets call this poor design.

Let say Cd player cover the noise anyway...

Same problem and yes...it's very annoying. Makes me not want to slide back the sunshade.

3 1/2 years and I think my sunroof has been open half a dozen times.

Yes. Unfortunately it occurs with mine as well. Quiet as can be with the screen pulled forward but noisy when pulled back. Glad to hear iys "normal" for this car. Not looking for problems that dont exist.
