Hi all

Today I decided to open the sun-roof eventhough it is freezing and snowing

Anyway - it soon became necessary to close. But when I tried, the roof would move to close position, and then open again I had to use the wrench in the tool set to manually close the roof.

Anyone know what could be my problem? Bad sensor or something?

Any help is appreciated.

make sure there's nothing blocking the track or in the way of the roof closing.

Yeah - I did that. Nothing seems to be blocking - the roof is actually closing fully, then immediately opening again. Weird.....

Try reintializing the sunroof. 1st put it into the tilted/vent position and hold the button for about 10 seconds. Then open the sunroof and hold the button for another 10 seconds. Finally close the sunroof and hold the button for 10 seconds. This may help. The sunroof may also be binding. Try spraying some WD-40 into the sunroof tracks

Mine did this after bmw replaced the sunroof seal. They didn't have it in correctly or something, and the sunroof would open back by itself after I shut it. Took it back and they took care of it somehow. I think it's a safety feature....like a garage door...it opens back if something get's in the way. Maybe you have a chunk of ice getting in the way?

Yeah - does seem like it is the anti trap function kicking in. Weird, I did check for any blocking items - nothing apparent. Maybe I try the reset procedure as proposed above (thanks for the hint, did not know you could do that!)

I just recently had the same problem, the dealer checked the anti-trap feature and it was ok. after they diagnosed and took the sunroof apart, they told me that the metal wind replector inside the sunroof was bend and they couldn't straightned it. So I had to purcharse the new part which costed $150 and paid to get it fix.

I had this issue as well. Mine was caused by the wind deflector not retracting far enough when the roof closes. My service adviser just grabbed the deflector with the roof open and gently bent it back down. Fixed.
