Another option may be to go to a Jaguar dealer and pick up some wheel touch up paint. Many Jaguar wheels are also made by BBS, and have a very similar finish to to BMW wheels. I don't think BMW dealers sell any wheel touch up paint, but Jaguar does offer it in their accessory catalog.

Thanks for the info but the painter wants to stay away from spray cans. Maybe I will order a can of that paint just to see what color it really is. Reading on the internet both of these match Audi rims and some older BMW. Since 172 are almost like silvery chrome and not just plain silver metailic, I am not sure if both of these paints will be a close match.
