I tried searching this forum and the internet for BMW Style 172 wheel paint color/manufacturer. Found a forum tread written by some guy in UK claiming that Reflex Silver 844 is the correct OEM color for style 172 wheels. However, when I called a local auto paint supply store they could not find this color in their catalog. Does anyone know what it really is?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks.

Pardon my ignorance, but does that really matter?
They look as silver to me as the next set of wheels...

Or what's so special about it?

Actually the real color is kind of a mix between a chrome and silver metalic.

I have three sets of BMW wheels at home (17", 18", and 19"). All three are different color. Since I need to get the 172s (19") refinished, the painter needs to know what kind of paint it is and what color they are.

Your best bet is to utilize one of these:

Einszet silver wheel paint: http://www.1z-usa.com/Silver-Spray-A...eel-Paint.html

Wurth silver wheel paint: http://www.autogeek.net/wurth-silver-paint.html

Another option may be to go to a Jaguar dealer and pick up some wheel touch up paint. Many Jaguar wheels are also made by BBS, and have a very similar finish to to BMW wheels. I don't think BMW dealers sell any wheel touch up paint, but Jaguar does offer it in their accessory catalog.

Thanks.
I asked two refurbishing companies the same question and the replies were "Platinum" and "Hyper Silver".Neither company could guarantee a perfect colour match if one wheel required refurbishment. One suggested all wheels be done (more cash for them),the other suggested a second wheel be submitted so that they could TRY and colour match!
I only had a minor scuff on a front rim, used Peugeot "Platinum" touch-up paint followed by clear lacquer, perfect match !

Correction:

The paint colour I used is Peugeot "Aluminium".

By the way,for UK members,I am told that Lepsons do a very good job.

Thanks for all of the responses.

Yes because I was trying to avoid doing all four. One of the wheels is still good. Maybe I will not have a choice.

I will ask the painter if he knows what color/formula is used in the Peugeot Aluminum paint. Thanks for the info!
