Hi All:

Where did all those interested in 550i performance go? Actual test data given at the link above.

Interesting, but I really think the 550 is faster than those test showed, closer to 5secs than 5.5. If I had even a little clue about how to test my car, I would do it. Hopefully someone else with the konw-how will provide some results. Thanks for researching.

5.5 was zero to 62.14 MPH--which implies the 550i is quite fast since BMW NA claims only 5.5 to 60 for the Step 550i. More importantly, whether on an unadjusted or an adjusted basis, it takes my car about .390 seconds to go from 60 to 62.14. So, a good esitimate of the 550i's zero to 60 time is 5.11 (i.e., 5.5 - .390)--which is about what I have been predicting all along. But, of course, we can't take the altitude and weather for the 550i's test into consideration.

I'm not at all surprised. The mag's result is perfectly consistent with BMW NA's claims. But, of course, dedicated straight liners might do better with practice and possibly some learning by their cars.

Its a sedan....a sports sedan. I don't expect it to be the fastest car on the street. But as long as its faster than a 545 I'm happy.......and ours is

But, how do you know Rolo? I have posted the only reliable comparable 545i versus 550i data, and it is not consistent with your assertion. In fact, the data I posted for the 545i are no less, and probably are more, conservative at least from the altitude perspective than those for the 550i. I suggest you get a g-meter or go to a drag strip and provide some comparative data for us. We would be very enthusiastic about you joining us on the g-meter testing thread. We really want to get others interested in generating comparative data.
