Stero not working and speaker crackling & hissing

The stereo has ceased to work on my X5, the speakers are just hissing and crackling and this still happened after I turned the car off. I had to remove the fuse in the rear compartment to stop this. We had had some water getting in through the rear LH lights after a repair a few years ago, but it all appears dry now. Any ideas?

may be a short. Check the modules around the water area and wiring. Check the amp connections and make sure it's dry.
