I had this problem since 1994 I bought the car, and my dealer said that they will contact the customer support at the regional office, and since that time (4months ago) nothing happened and they were all surrprised about such a problem.

Can anybody help me what is the best solution, or what parts needed to be replaced to get rid of this prob.

BMW are morons. Had the car 3+ days to replace the amplifier, gave me an X3 loaner that the back of the driver's seat had fallen off (BMW quality). After driving off with the "Fix" guess what. Static pop is still there.

Next call is to the GM of the dealership. Totally PO'd.

Scheduling test drives for the new A6, GS 430, and E500. I realize they won't drive as great as the 545 but the 545 seems to beat everything to the repair shop and I am damn tired of it.

I'm pissed too. I may call the dealership general manager too. A stereo is so important to me and the crackling pisses me off.

I do not have Logic 7, so I'm not sure if my car has an amp. So I doubt that's my issue. My dealer just says that I'm playing my stereo too loud (and I'm not) and they have no clue about the AM. They always say that they're hoping a future software release addresses it. Man, they can use that line forever if they want. What can I say to that?

I MAY HAVE AN ANSWER - I had the popping occuring, sounded like a small stone hitting the windshield, and happened more when the temp was higher (pm) than in the cooler mornings. Noticed mostly on satelite radio.

Took it in and the dealer stated in short time it was the stereo amplifier. They had to order for replacement.

Note I do have logic 7 so that dealer who made that statement is nuts

I think the problem is simple.

Factory car audio sucks. Period.

It doesn't matter what car, what brand... they all suck.
Some are just worse than others.

Lucky for BMW, they don't use Bose.

Mine was fixed with a new amplifier, after replacing the Mask/CCC unit to no avail. Cunninham BMW, SD worked on mine.

Thanks for the info, CRRobert.

Just to confirm, you do NOT have Logic 7, right?

I'm still having this problem as well. Dealer says he has to duplicate it for them to repair. I do not have logic 7 and have an 8/03 build 530i.

What I had to do, since it was intermittent for me, was to video record it to catch it. I could then show to the dealer, so they could not give me the "could not duplicate" again.

The only thing I have found on this is the following SIB:

SI B 65 24 05
Sound System, Cruise, Alarms, Monitors October 2005
Technical Service

SUBJECT
Static Between Words on AM Radio

MODEL
E90 (3 Series) with SA 609 Navigation

E60, E61 (5 Series) with SA 609 Navigation

E63, E64 (6 Series)

SITUATION
The customer may complain when listening to AM radio, there is excessive static between the words on talk radio.

CAUSE
Software error in CCC (Car Communication Computer)

PROCEDURE

Update the complete vehicle per SI B09 05 01 (Coding, Individualization, Programming) Procedure B, using CIP 19.1 (Target Data Status E060-05-09-530, E89x-05-09-530) or higher.

I don't know anything more about it than what this bulletin states.

Maybe u can use this as some sort of leverage.

This is a great idea -- I still get this problem after driving the car with stereo on for a couple of hours without stopping. The longer you have it on, the louder the hiss gets.
