Only difference I'm aware of is the gearing between the different models, all of them run a ZF 6HP26. Not sure about the X models and the SMG.

Straying from the topic, and I apologize for that, but why then are us 545 owners the only ones with surging problems? To get back on topic, I would love to put paddle shifters in my car, except for the fact that only the newest cars rev match on downshifts. I would still do it though if the price was decent.

No idea, that is way over my knowledge level. The 545 does have the ZF 6HP26 tranny though.

Also, like the SB, a car with the SAT option isn't actually any faster than a car without, it's just more fun to drive if you like using the paddles.
I understand that the paddles do exactly the same thing the main shifter does when I'm in sports mode, and that its just for looks and practicality by allowing you to keep both hands on the wheel when shifting. I know all e60 trannys are the same, and correct me if I'm wrong but e60's that dont have the sports pkg. are not able to shift the tranny manually and do not get that amazing power boost and responsiveness. But I assumed that because I already have the sports package, the wheel with paddles would be pnp.

The sports package doesn't change the tranny in any way. The Steptronic is standard equipment on auto cars. You can find most of the E60 brochures in the information section of this website.

535 has the 6HP21. Actually looks like there are quite a few different trannies.

Good to know, thanks for the link. I didn't even know there was a 21, must be the update to the 19.
