I am just curious. What year was that car? How many miles? What was the asking price? BMW usually will not CPO a vehicle if it has a lot of miles or in poor condition.

I wish I could say that all dealers carry out the same care in their CPO process....but I can't. My dealer CPO'd a car and cut many corners. Nothing too eggregious, but enough to make it a real pain in the arse. BMWUSA website only takes what the dealer gives them. There is no guarantee that the particular dealership (CPO division) does or does not cut corners in their own particular CPO process. The two techs that "CPO'd" my car, along with the salesman that sold it to me were fired shortly after I bought the car. Huh.

I use to get this from time to time, but turning off and restarting the car always remedied the problem.

I found that driving the car quickly or somewhat aggressively right after start up somewhat coincided with this warning light.
Exactly. It ended up being a low fluid condition. I think the error message would pop up right after start up because the fluid, when cold, hadn't expanded enough yet to prevent the warning message...

Mine showed the same thing after changing a new battery. To solve this problem, I turned the steering full to the left and right and the warning disappeared.

I had the same problem with my 2004 545. It only happened when it was cold. ended up being a bad hose clamp and low fluid.

Well I checked out the car (Herb Chambers of Boston). When I get there they inform me that the car is NOT a CPO vehicle. (ph@ck!) This car was stated as a CPO car in both autotrader.com, cars.com as well as being listed as a CPO on the bmwusa.com site. What a waste of time.

This car was filthy inside and out. The wheels looked like crap, it needed brakes and it had a scraped headlight with a broken frame. The right front quarter panel and the hood were repainted. All of the tires had uneven wear, which leads me to think that the suspension is extremely worn.

Obviously this dealer had never touched the car, yet bmwusa.com has it listed as a CPO. I'll definately avoid this dealer in the future.

I just purchased a 2002 325i convertible there for my father. When I looked at the car it was dirty, and when I test drove it I noticed it required brake pads and had a slight pull. It only had 31K miles. I also noticed all 4 rims had curb rash. I spoke to the salesman and he informed me their service department will go over the car before it goes out the door. They ended up putting 4 new tires and rims, new pads and discs, new lower control arms, new sway bar bushings, cooling system flush, oil change, and a few other miscelaneous things, total bill was $5K for their sales department, but the car was like new when we picked it up. I would not hesitate to buy from Herb Chambers BMW.
