This is a common BMW fault caused by all the dust and gunk that builds up in the steering mechanism.

Just unlock the adjustable steering lever and pull & push / Lift & lower the steering column through it's full adjustement range a couple of times. Then reset it back to where it was and it should cure it.

I had this on my last two BMW's (creaking steering wheel) and it cured it. I maybe had to do this every 3-4 months to silence the creaking.

Um How do you "unlock" the steering column on an E60?...Every one in the USA I thought had power adjustment steering column... Not like the stripper E90's I get from the dealer as loners with the manual adjustment on well every thing....

I'd like to give this a try as well.

i think everyone talks about a different noise here

and "higher" even talks about an alltogether different part of the steering lol! (the tilt mechanism)

regarding the squeaking that Iceman mentioned at the start of the topic - I think its this here:

I think some people have managed to get rid of it by replacement of the steering fluid, and if not, replacement of the steering column (not surprisingly... maybe car replacement would work even better, we should try it )

Anyone else having infos about the squeak from the video?

That's exactly the sound I'm talking about.

It's not permanent, it's not loud and one can probably safely ignore it for good.....EXCEPT WE CAN'T !!!111oneone1! :x

Thats the one I've too. Not permanent, depends on the humidity (weather). Somewhere I read its a sound of a rubber sealing where the columns goes through the chase. I've not spent yet any time to investigate it. Ignored (yee, it pisses me off) so far.
