Iceman,

I took a video with sound using my digital camera of my car making the noise. Sitting stopped at idle in the driveway turning the steering wheel side to side. Noise is clearly heard while the wheel is turned. Ignore the noises at the beginning and end of the video as that is me starting and stopping the camera.

Thanks,
Tom

I'll forward it, but this is not the one we are looking for.

We are looking for the random squeeking noise that occurs when turning at low speeds or when standing and immediately driving off after turning the wheels.

Random errors are hard/impossible to reproduce.

I have been looking up the VIN's and I think we are a little closer to determine the part which is possibly causing the noise.

It has nothing to do with country specs or AS. All kind of engines are involved, even x-drivers.

It would be much easier if the noise could be reproduced. But random noises...

Still looking for two members VIN's, hope you guys provide me your VIN's.

What about the accident? I remember a thread where the steering malfunctioned and the e60 crashed... Can't remember who it was... But he actually took a pic with his cellphone of the screen with the warning message "after" the crash...

It was BaranE. IIRC he did not mention any noises, just steering failure.

That's the one from Turkey.

I remember somebody in the US...

It seems there are a lot of issues with the steering. Failures and sounds/noises.

Iceman,

I had the identical noise that was on the video, dealer changed my steering rod and the noise has not returned in well over a year.

I posted about this at the time of repair.

I have the same noise as in the video. Every morning I hear this noise when I pull out of my garage.

This is old, has there been any more info/cure to this lame squeeking? It comes on and off, and when it's there, it's damn annoying and persistent.

I get a squeak usually only at very slow speed turns at near lock ( more like a Hydrolic Honk), it only happens when I'm turning out of the hard turn , not turning the wheel going in to the turn...

I just thought it was some thing with the AWD , since I've had similar issues with the R32 , and all the Audis with Quattro I have driven.
