Default Spare keys and fob not working 2004 530d

Hi,

I bought my car from trade and the car came with 3 keys, the key I have used everyday and the spares I have never used.

When reading the manual, it advises to use the spare keys from time to time to keep them charged, like on long journeys.

Both my spare key fobs do not get a response from the car and when i insert the keys into the ignition, though they fit fully, they don't turn.

Any advice please?

Thank you.

Had you ever used them? How long have you had it?

What kind of keys? You say they are fobs but you say they don't turn. Do you have a start button? If you have diamond shaped keys then its simple. They aren't the keys for that car.

Hi,

Truth is I have never used them, I just put them in the same wallet as logbook, service book, paperwork et al and forgot about them until I read the part in the manual about "keeping them charged", because up until that point I just assumed they would work as they are the "old school shape" for a 2004 model, it is not the start/stop model.

the keys are identical to the original master key i am using right now (not the start/stop) later versions.

Are the engravings on the key blade identical?. It sounds like you were given the wrong keys as spares. Try the spares in the door and boot lid locks just in case the ignition barrel has worn.

I had that happen with me with the plastic wallet key. I think the trader just stuck any old plastic key in to make it look good. When I called to say that the wallet key didn't work he came back with the falsest sounding surprise I have ever heard.

thanks for your response, you are right brother, my spare keys are "duds" any old beema key, lesson learnt = when buying next one, always test spare keys as well and get the price knocked down for duds either for exact cost of spare ONO.

oh well...
