Hi everyone, I've actually been following this forum since around the beginning of the year, and just got my 530 in May. It's pretty slick, and I'm really having a lot of fun in it - thanks to all for their insightful posts, which were usefull when I was car hunting.

OK, down to my question:

I've been having some funky issues with the car recently. The CD player resets itself to track 1 every time I restart the car, and there's this ridiculously annoying Anti-Trap window thing - Basically, it keeps turning itself off an on for various windows. The rear driver's window has been off for about two weeks, and I'm convinced it's not going to magically come back on.

So, I'm taking it in for them to look at. I'm going to push for a software upgrade, but I have three questions that I'm hoping you guys will have some info on.

1. What version should I be asking for here in the US?
2. Will the upgrade redo all of my driving memory stuff (the car learning shift points, etc)?
3. And the big one - can someone please tell me what the deal is with MP3 support?? I have the standard US radio, and I DON'T have navigation. Am I able to play MP3 cds after this upgrade, or should I just spring for the iPod device?

Any other tips about the software upgrade are appreciated, I'm a little nervous about it.

ps - I ordered the red reflectors and put them on, they look great!

 

1) should be CIP 17.0 or 17.1
2) if it includes a gearbox update from what you have it might
3) not shure about USA cars

and the cd player will remember where you stoped it

 

a lot of the members are having problems with 17.0 and up. see if your dealer has 16.2. most of us are happy with this version. it killed the lag problem . your car will drive a lot better than before in d mode. as far as mp3, since you are in the states and don't have nav, i don't think you'll get it at all. aux input and ipod is probably the way to go. please correct me if i'm wrong .

 

1. You really dont have to ask... dealers will load the latest one they have... but we discuss versions here so we know whats the latest and what they fix. Only reason to ask the dealer is if you know theres V.17 and you want to know if your dealer is using that... otherwise they might still be on 16.2 so if thats the case you might want to hold off.

BUT like alohalc said... 17 seems to be having more problems than 16.x I have 16.x and i dont have any issues with it.

2. They might... I believe the new software like 15+ saves your radio settings... and if they upgrade your transmission software then you'll lose the "memory" for the shift points. Just dont have too much hope and accept the fact that you might lose your settings... I mean hey you wanted the upgrade right? Its ok... its not too bad... especially since you dont have NAV to deal with. Take it like you got a NEW car and have to reconfigure it again. It'll be fun.

3. That depends! you got your car in may?? is it a 2006 or 2005? what is it? 545? if its a 2006 then you should have Radio Pro even w/out nav. If its a pre 2006 and you dont have Nav then its Bus Radio and you wont be able to have MP3 capability. if its a 2006 with Radio Pro then upgrading to v17 or maybe even 16.2+ you'll be able to play MP3s.

 

Thanks for the tips, I'll check with them to see what version they have when I drop off the car. From poking around (and your comments) I'm hoping they have 16.2.

I have a 2005 530, so I guess I'm out of luck with the MP3 - which isn't terrible, I have an iPod, I'll just have them put in the iPod thinger, it's only about $400.

 

Ya sucks! I wanted MP3 capability "for free"... but I'm too out of luck just like you...
