Radio Data Service, which is the signal that is transmitted over the FM band from select radio stations that show you the song/artist. It can also alert you to weather and traffic hazards, but I know of no radio stations in Dallas that use it for that purpose, they just show the name of the song and the artist.

RDS is a signal transmitted from the radio station. This signal contains a text what is displayed on the screen of the radio. The radio station can edit this text. It can be the name of the station, name of a song or artist, braking news, weather, etc.... They decide. It also contains information about the radio station and its frequencys, read by the radio. So the radio is switching to other frequencys of the same radio station, if this frquency is better than the current one. So you drive and don't need to worry about changing frequencys.
