You can't put it in just any gear -- you can start in second but you can only upshift if you're going fast enough for the gear you're selecting.? In other words, you can't start in 3rd or higher and if you start in 2nd, you can't just shift to 3rd until you get up some speed...

I said you can choose any gear, must select them sequentially (1st, then 2nd, then 3rd etc) and it will downshift if the engine will bog- alternatively, but under the same principle, you can't upshift into an engine bogging condition.

This year, I decided to not get Blizzaks (the best for extreme snow/ice) and instead went with the Dunlop Winter Sport M3.
I have the Dunlop Winter Sport M3s, too. I'm just proud that I picked the same tires as an expert like Rudy. How bad can they be? This is my first winter with the car, so I don't have a point of comparison, but I have pretty much been able to plow through Chicago's unusually snowy winter with the M3s. We got about another foot today!

[/quote]It might appear you are skipping gears but it must go through each sequencial gear to get to the next.

Hi All, Silly question here, if I purchase a set of tires and wheels from the Tire Rack and they are already mounted and balanced, does that mean I can just put them on myself? Thanks, Arno

Also.. if you're forced to use summer tyres on snow.. CLEAN them..! A lot of "road dirt" sticks to the tyres, and make them more slippery than they should be.
