This morning I played a bit with my smg and I observed that changing with two hands for the same gear the upshift seems faster than usually .. Perhaps the signal arrives in less time, I don't know .

Example : you are in second gear and you want to upshift .. Try to pull *both* paddles with left and right hands simultaneously .

Has anyone tried ?

I've also noted that if I start with Acceleration Assist (LC) the car upshift automatically, from first to second and from second to third, but FASTER than the normal upshift in sport mode .

Sorry for my bad english ..

If it's revved high enough won't the pulling of both levers possibly trigger upshifting 2 gears?
I like more the +/- varaint of the M5....it feels i dunno more natural.

If you pull both paddles *simultaneously* upshift of only ONE gear .

If you push not simultaneously but almost, with both inches, you can downshift TWO gears in very few time (incredible!) .

In next days I will invert my left paddle to downshift pulling left paddle and upshift pulling the right one, like M5 and Ferrari .

Nope never tried it. But yes... using Acceleration Assist the car does upshift for you automatically at whatever BMW thought is the most optimal point to upshift to give you the fastest acceleration. Thats normal. and yes it does shift faster than normal sports mode shifting...

As for right upshift and left downshift. I agree thats the "proper" way of shifting... but for normal everyday driving... I kinda prefer how ours shift...

I have the "proper" shift paddles in my IS 350 and for everyday use... its easier to be able to do both with one hand.

I agree that the push/pull paddle setup is a better idea than the left downshift, right upshift setup of pretty much every other car. I'm not sure what people have against it. It makes much more sense and is much simpler to operate.

On the two paddle gear changes, I will say that quite skeptical that pulling them both simultaneously will do anything to increase the shift speed. Certainly, using launch control causes faster shifts than in sport mode (but it also increases wear and tear on the system) but until I'm able to try the double paddle technique and see some results for myself, I'm doubtful that it will result in anything more than normal...

If we could modify the smg to change, in sport mode, always so fast like with LC ...

The problem is to find the software of the smg, because I would already have the person who could do it ..

Huh? I think many SMG owners feel that Drive mode is not worth using at all. For me, even in everyday driving (which is all of my driving), I like to shift myself. What we're saying here is that the push/pull arrangement of the paddles makes more sense than the more "standard" way.

I still don't see why the push/pull method is not suited to the track or any other type of driving. If anything, it's better suited to the track because you never have to worry about what paddle you're touching to make a shift. "Fingers upshift, thumbs downshift." It's that simple...

Ya the auto D mode is not worth using at all. now 95% of the time I change gears myself. when I first got it i used auto and D mode about 50/50 now its 95/5. I only chnage it to Auto mode when I'm sick and tired of stoop and go traffic and get really annoyed then I go screw this. I'm going to put the least effort into driving and let the car do the gear changes and I dont care how lurchy it gets as thats not whats on my mind... whats left on my mind at that point is I want to be out of this traffic jam.
