Dumping the clutch of a 6speed 40 times in less than 2 years will also have some reprecussions.

This happened to me and it happened while driving. Did not matter if I was in auto mode or manual mode. Dealer didn't piss around, they replaced the tranny and all is fine. They didn't make me go through software updates and other BS. They told me that BMW told them the only way for this to happen is for there to be a defect in the mechanicals of the tranny and not a software problem. This also has NOTHING to do with the clutch. Please note that I would be driving along and the car would go into neutral and actually show "N" in the gear selector on the dash while stilling showing Drive on the center console shifter. I'm still glad I have the SMG and with the new tranny it's hasn't happened since. Push for them to replace the tranny.
