i always use a can of compressed air (the kind to clean computer keyboards.) Use on all cracks and crevices and it'll blow away all that hidden water.

All you have to do is take the corner part of the chamois and insert it inside the mirror of where the water is and the chamois absorbs all the water, you just may have to do this 2x

If you are drivng the E60 through the Sahara Desert and you run out of water, you will really appreciate the E60 side mirror trapping water - it could save your live!

not a problem that is unique to BMW's....all my previous cars with folding mirrors did the same thing.....water always collects behind the mirror glass somewhere.
