I have an opportunity to trade my 2006 530i 48k miles for a 2003 M5 22k miles.
Both are in great shape. Neither have warranty but my guess is the M5 will have much higher maintenance over the next few years. Both are 6spds.
After driving the M5, my impressions are that the interior is quite a bit smaller, and the dash and accessories look somewhat dated. But it is very quick.
Any opinions about trading a newer car for the older one?

Do it. Plain and simple. Do it. Your never going to get this chance again. It's not like more and more of these cars are going to pop up. This is your last chance to own a BMW in it's purest forum.
DAMN! I should go into sales.

I'd not be particularly interested in an E39 M5 at this point, and I'd also be concerned at a car that had seen such little service (approximately 3K per year). Few mainstream cars respond well to life as a garage queen, on the Porsche forums at least the perceived wisdom seems to be that cars that see regular use tend to be more robust than those that don't.

speed is addicting but i would prefer the e60 because its just a smoking hot babe with a g string getting the m5 will make you happy for awhile but if you drive to work or travel the m5 isn't the car for the job. just stick with the e60 there's a decent power plant and the ex/interior looks gorgeous.

My Ride: 545i/6
I have actually gone back and forth myself on this a few times. Before I bought my 545i I seriously considered an e39 M5. Ultimately the updated looks, adequate power, and the deal I got won me over with the e60. Im more of an enthusiast at heart and sometimes wish I wouldve got the M5 instead. Lsd and 400hp out of the box is still very tempting. Im interested in others comments as well. As far as the OP, Id spring for the low mile M5 if your an enthusiast, a lot more car than the 530i and it will probly hold its value much better assuming you keep the miles low.

I'm probably going to switch to a E60 M5 once the prices come down more. I'm not feeling the F10 and the more I hear about the driving experience, the less I like it. I personally wouldn't go back to a prior model, but then again, I'm a gadget guy.

I'm thinking of doing the same, but I drive a great distance back and forth to work so gas is my only issue...but going to take my mom's car when she buys a new one...so gas will not be an issue for me anymore... M5 in the near future
OP - IMO, I would say E60 instead of E93, but it's what you desire the most.
