Hi All

Just joined the forum ,well impressed with all the different topics espically the detail I own a e60 530d and love it have just 55k miles on the clock

I might change it for 520d (Repersents ok value over the 530) our speed limit here in the emerald isle 60km/120km and its well enforced......................., or maybe I will just hold on to it and just keep driving it, what would you guys do ???

Hey briana,

Welcome to the forum. A 530d is a real icon car. it started the revlution of superfast diesels. Even though the speedlimits are low there, its nice to know that u CAN go fast when u want. But more importantly u can have fun with the pull in 1st gear to 60 or the pull to 120 + overtaking etc.

Having said that, if all this is not so important to you then the 520 is a very very respectable car because it has great fuel economy, its quick also, and has probably better resel value where you are.

Good luck.

Hey Briana

I have just switched from a Nissan 350Z to a 520d. I live in Kildare. I must say altho I am swapping a 3.5 ltr petrol for a 2.0ltr diesel - I am delighted. Of course you dont get the surge in the back when you floor it but as you say all that power will be wasted (most of the time) as the speed limit restricts you and also the Gardai will get their act together eventually. Dont get me wrong I would love a 530 or 535d and I did test drive them. However I would only be able to afford a 2005 model and for less money I got a new 520d m-sport with a few extras. The 2006 model also has the Aux input for the ipod which is dead handy

Hi Briana,

Hold on to the 530d.

If you would come from another car and you now would have to decide wether to buy the 520d or the 530d, maybe it could be a different story.
But you own the 530d already. With 55.000 km I wouldn't expect the car to brake down in the next few month or do you think it's something wrong with it?

You are used to the potential of the 530d and I'm sure you will miss something in many driving situations. And concerning the fuel economy, the difference between the two (if you drive them both in the same range) isn't as large as the difference in the hp lets expect.

@bazzman: nice car

Hello
I would hold on to the 530d. I think you will miss the power from the bigger engine when you change to the 520d. It's not the same thing when you change between two different cars which has two different engines. I say, stick with your car!
