hey fellow 5ers

i have a question or 2 to ask...

my 06 550i has a weird sensation, like shaking, but not frequent like an actual shaking. My rear tires were changed like almost a month ago, didn't know if alignment were needed.

second question: one day the service reminder popped up saying i need to change my microfilter, but i didn't have time to go change it and it said there is still 100 miles left. However, today when I drive it, the notice is gone and when I go check the service info, the microfilter is at 1000 miles. What's going on?

BTW, last time I went to the dealership for maintenance, the SA told me I should do this engine flush or brake flush (i forgot...i'm not car knowledgeable) for like $200. He said something like the carbon buildup wil cause the car to shake. If you guys know what i'm talking about, enlighten me whether if I can take that to an indy shop or even do it on my own?

Appreciate the response guys.

Thank you

when you said shaking, do you mean at idling or driving at certain speed? I don't think wheel misaligned will cause shaking unless it's very bad but your tires shop should be able to detect the odd or uneven wear when they removed your old tires.

As for the micro filter, don't worry about it, just go ahead and change it ASAP since you're near that mark already. May be you can order online to save some money.

As for engine flush, haven't heard of it so may be someone here can chime in on that. There is a good DIY and bleeding the brakes so if you're up for it, then might as well.

$200 is brake flush. Not too necessary but it's good since brake fluid absorbs the moisture but if ur not tracking the car, u dont need to do it every 2 years.

Shaking as in engine? Could be tranny or engine mounts. We need more info.

Replace the microfilter. U dont want to be breathing nasty particles.

For carbon build up? My dealer recommended a one of those service before too... its was in the neighborhood of $200.. it was to clean the spark plugs and the combustion chamber.

Brake flush is recommended every 2 years.

Just a tip, check ebay for microfilters. Look up cabin filters, they're the same thing. I just got a pair of carbon coated filters for 21.99 shipped versus BMW's 90 some dollars. Yeah they're probably not as good as the real deal but it's not really that vital of a part. My 2 cents.

ya, it wasn't really like shaking in the seats. But it feels like i'm driving on a straight line and had this little tiny shift to the right side kind of feeling. I still have maintenance so I should just bring it in to get it changed.

thanks!

if it feels a bit loose, then possibly front bushings need replacement. Since you still have warranty, might as well have them inspected it.

My car felt very loose, almost to the point of being dangerous, with the Hankooks. The sidewalls are very soft so if they inflated them to the stock pressure of 36psi the back end of your car would feel pretty sloppy. Try raising the pressure to about 40 psi and see if feels better
