Here is the way to reset the service lights on your e60.
It may be old news but i thought i would post with the video i found on you tube
Its an easy way to save £££££ or $$$$$$!
Turn ignition on to position 2 (so handbrake and other warning lights come on)but do not turn engine on.
press the check button until you get the date then hold for upto 10 secs. When the service detail changes, release and wait.... When the the "reset" comes up then press and hold for 3 secs and then the display will go ---- underneath.
Turn ignition off and then back on againcheck info sources in i drive and then see if it has reset.
Hope this helps you all doing the DIY stuff. It even worked for my service inspection which it would have had to go to BMW for normally.
I think this only seems to work on early / pre LCI E60 as newer e60s have a different I-drive

I used it to reset my vehicle inspection as i had just had my MOT done and I knew that the car had had a government inspection and did not need BMW to look at the same things.
The dealer told me that they look at different things (which the may do) but for me the main things are brakes / tyres / structure and condition and this would have been done on an MOT.
I know how to check the levels and dont need this done so I was happy as i had just go the dealer to do an oil change.
The next thing on my i-drive is spark plugs at 4000 to go.
I will probably change them myself and reset the idrive that way again as well.
Brakes I will get done by professionals but at least i know how to reset the i drive now if i get an independant person to do it!
I sure many people know how to check the service countdown in the idrive but it is does depend what I-drive software you have.
Mine is under service requirements and check control messages section
