Same problem here as well. I've only got 5200 miles on it. Sounds like a pretty common problem. The wierd thing about it is the adaptive headlights start going crazy. If I turn left the lights go right or turn right the lights go left. Then when you straighten the wheel the lights start wiggin' out. Is this just part of the DSC malfunction that everyone has been having?
One other thing, I'm taking my car to Desert BMW of Henderson, NV for the first time because I moved to the area recently and was wondering if there was anyone that had any experience with this dealer and if they have a good service department? The service person I spoke to told me that she would give me a upper end rental car due to the fact the I live about 85 miles from the dealer.

Ive got the same DSC problem on my brand new E60. Less than 1000 miles. The dealer is having difficulties getting this fixed. They claim the distributor isnt releasing the parts to fix the issue. I brought it back to the dealer 3(!!) weeks ago and they feel it is unsafe to return it to me. Grrr. They gave me an E90 to drive for now, but this is seriously messed up.

Wow, so now it's obvious that this glitch is happening to a lot of E60s. Mine just came on today ... twice. So much for hoping that this car would have flawless reliability like all my previous/current Hondas. First glitch ever and I'm super pissed. GRRRRRRRRRR!!!

I got the message too! I just returned from a 3000 mile month long summer trip and I'm glad that it waited until the day after we got home to malfunction. We spent most of the time up in 8000+ altitude and I was concerned with how the car would do up there. It really did fine but it seemed to be a little sluggish when accelerating even in DS mode. I noticed back down at sea level that it seems to have a little more 'get up and go'. The good news is that my highway mpg on the way home was around 31-32.5 (and that included quite a bit of time at 80-85 mph).

Same thing here with my Nov. '05 build 550i with <5k miles. DSC and start-up malfunction. The length of time to get the replacement sensor varies depending on whether you have heated steering wheel or not. Bizarre.
Any chance you are in the midwest? Any chance your sticker says Elmhurst BMW as the original dealer?
I re-ordered my car with comfort seats but the dealer forgot to put the order in so they ended up with two of them (one with comfort seats, one without).
And yes, my steering angle sensor went out last week
