The part is still on backorder and the dealer was unable to give me any firm ETA other than it's apparently been taking around four weeks on average to get these specific parts delivered so it looks like I'm in for a long wait...
Mine took a week, but it was at the beginning of June. That seemed to be the norm according to my dealer back then. I wonder if the backlog is getting deeper or if your dealer just isn't trying hard enough?

I have this exact same problem too
Also I notice the steering is hard to turn when I slow down to make a turn, have anyone notice this?
Really hope that it doesn't take too long to get this fix.
swajames, which dealer are you going to? I called Fremont and they will see me next tues, then I called Mountain View and they say the next appt available is 7/19! So call Fremont back and bring it in next week...
Just wonder, for those that have to wait, do dealers give you a loaner car? If so what kind?

Woohoo I got my baby back after two days. It was planned to take a week to get the replacement part from Germany but my dealer managed to find the part somehow. My SA said this is a common problem for the 5 series. The receipt shows they replaced the SZL and reprogramed stuff. Everything is back to normal, but I think the steering is slightly different, stiffer, or maybe just my imagination.

I had to drive my car with this malfunction for about a week for awaiting appointment. The steering wheel was like hard to turn or stuck sometimes when doing a fast cornering - kind of scary. I got Hertz rental car because no loaners left in the dealer (or maybe my dealer was just being cheap).

Have anyone with these problems noticed the loss of steering wheel feedback. I had a "steering wheel sensor" replaced about two months ago (5k miles) after a "DSC-4wd" light came on. About a month (and 1k) later I noticed a marked deterioration in steering wheel resistance / feedback. The car seems to require a larger rotation on the steering wheel to turn than before. The SA noticed the diff in comparing to another 530xi, but could not find anything wrong mechanically or electronically.

That sucks... I hope you can get it fixed before the 30th. I see that your SA said the latest would be Monday, but I have heard that this particular part is backordered.

Hey iceman you must of bought your BMW from Pacific cuz mine has the same prob......SZL changed and it was changed in a day but the control module wouldnt take the programing thats why it has to stay and extra 5 days there cuz the part is supposedly VIN specific
