My Ride: 335i Sedan
Default

Hello there fellow members, went to my dealer to make a deal and also a close friend was there to test drive 330i (awesome car, but too small for me). Didn't finish the terms of my lease but I'll keep you posted once my car is ordered .

I'll digress now, my dealer said in sept. when you order Navigation there will now be live traffic updates included. I was kind of shocked because I always thought that was already included as most of BMW's competitors already have this feature (assumption, you can correct me if I'm wrong ).

I was also wondering for all current do you think you'll also recieve this with a CIP update?

In EU we have TMC (Traffic Message Channel) on our RDS (Radio Data System) Radios which links into our BMW (Professional) nav.

The upshot is that live traffic conditions show on the nav and your route will(if you have chosen appropriate defaults) be dynamically recalculated to avoid bad holdups.

only car i'm aware that has it is the acura rl. it gets the data from sat radio i believe.
anyway, i test drove the rl and the real time traffic updates were useless for nyc. it only shows major interstate highways, like I-95, etc.
didn't even show west side hwy, fdr, bqe, bridges, tunnels, etc.

I thought there are too many cars in NYC so no matter what route you take you will be stuck in traffic regardless.

(probably answered a zillion times before, but here goes ...)
I have a Dutch business nav (arrow only) and do get (rather) stupid messages about hold ups (busy traffic) of say 4km in about 90km. However, I do not get the immediate option for an alternative. More important, I do not get speedtrap info transmitted over RDS in my display. Is this my stupidity of not setting this up correctly, or is this not possible?

(a) On Professional Nav (it COULD be the same for Business Nav) you have to select "Dynamic Route" as well as "Fastest/Shortest" etc

You then get an audio message saying "There are traffic probems on your route" and the route is recalculated avoiding the "problems".

(b) You won't get speed trap info transmitted over RDS. Maybe you've found a gap in the market!!

A friend is driving an Opel Vectra (he has no choice, the poor bastard as he works for GM ), but his Nav is showing the Roadworks symbol, plus a text when there is a (non permanent) speedtrap. He claims that the info is coming via RDS!!!
