Couldn't find a secondhand E60 with satnav at a reasonable price, so...... have just splashed out on a new gizmo. It's a Tomtom Go. Sits rather neatly in the corner of the windscreen and a nice lady called Jane gives me directions to where she thinks I wnat to go. It's a lot neater than the pda solutions, it's a lot cheaper than the streetpilot fitted systems which cost ?1,000 roughly, and I gather the mapping and route analysis is actually better than the bmw system. When you don't want it on view, you can just pop it in the glove compartment.
Fot those of you who are interested I found one online for ?429 + VAT at Empire Direct.
Here's a review of the device ... http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/tomtom-go.php
and the tomtom site is http://www.tomtom.com
I know it's not anything like as neat as the built in system, but .... for us impoverished BMW drivers it goes a long way. James

For years I used a garmin streetpilot, its really pretty good compared to the pda solutions so I applaud your choice of the new tom tom one....This time I splashed out on a pro-nav system and having used it for a few months, I know why........when you come to buy your next bm, maybey the integrated nav will be standard (some chance!)

that looks like a neat device. been looking for something similar for the GF's Z4 as that don't have sat nav in it and she gets lost a lot when travelling to new places. she did initially dismiss satnav as a gimmick but having been in my E60 with it fitted i think she quite likes the idea now.
how is the tomtom powered (too lazy to look that up on their site) is it via the cigarette lighter ?
