It just doesn't make any sense that it absolutely cannot be done.

I agree that the additional antenna would be needed but I don't think it's as easy as you think in mounting the receiver. You don't just plug something into "iDrive," you insert something into the cars communications bus. Whether you tap into the bus in the trunk or under the dash, it makes no difference.

I don't know the exact issues but I'll speculate that tapping into the bus is the hard part. I imagine that it might be possible that in the future there will be a way to do this (with an additional antenna) I just don't know how long or how difficult it will be...

I hear you Rudy. My logic is only to combat the notion that if fiber optic cable, for instance, was not run in the car from back to front or into the shark fin, it shouldn't mean that install couldn't be done, just that the install may not be "clean." It just burns me when I read on the compatibility chart "retrofit not possible in any way."

Lenk, wherfore art thou?

i to am interested in this retrofit, and balk at the notion that if it was not done at the factory it can not be done.. If a fiber optic cable and a power and an antenea, and a reciever and module is all then it whould be able to be done. May not be as factory but should work and then just take it to the dealer to have the software updated. I work with fiber optics and have done alot of serious stereo installs and given the proper info and accessories i think we can do it if a NAv system can be retrofitted and bluetooth retroed, why not a symple radio. BMW NA are you here your loyal and faithfal still awaits your help on these minor but anoying issues.

The problem is not getting the Sirus unit to get sat signal. The problem is intigrating the unit into the radio via fiber optics.
