I know that I've had problems reading back up nav on DVD-R (some times it can be read most of the time it can't, tried multiple DVD-R discs) and it's all good when switched to DVD+R (recommended by a friend).

i use DVD-Rs and i have been having problems with them honestly. i use the best quality so was assuming its either something wrong with my computer drive or car cd player.. tried slower speed small improvement but still not reliable.,...

gonna try DVD+Rs tomorrow and see if they are better,,, thanks for the info

Write speeds and read speeds of recordable media are not related.

There is nothing, AFAIK, to indicate that READING rewriteable media (RW) should be slower than recordable media - whether it is PLUS or DASH format.

Maybe. But it is.

Possibly error rates are higher, or the implementation of the DVD reader is particularly sensitive. You are welcome to try. I have had a couple of +RW that could not be read at all when faffing about with cameras POI. Now settled on memorex, and it works well, but it's definitely slower at reading than on -R discs (you can see this in map redraws around a static centre).

Modern drives play almost everything. My E60 refuses verbatim DVD -R. I wasted 3 discs.
