My Ride: 520d Black & SL350
I took delivery of a 520d a few weeks ago.
When I was going through the handover with the salesman, he advised that I should NEVER (he could talk in upper case) ever put a non navigation DVD in the slot for the professional navigation disk, even though the slot has DVD printed next to it. He went on to say that if I did the disk would not be ejectable and it would cost a lot of money for BMW to remove it...
Now, I know that I can't play DVD movies but I was hoping I might be able to put a wheen of audio tracks (maybe even MP3s) onto a DVD and stick 'em in that slot.
Was he spinning me a line? Could I play a DVD with audio tracks? Should I get off my arse and read the manual?
TIA
Martin

You can remove the navigation DVD by yourself in 3 seconds and yes, it plays DVD with MP3 .

He's feeding you a load of BS. I've done it on my '05 Z4 with NAV, so I don't see why you couldn't do it on an e60. My e60 doesn't have NAV otherwise I'd go try it for ya.
On my Z4 there's a button on the dash that looks like this ----> (!)
The dealer told me that I should never press that button because it will reset the entire car's electronics and I'd have to have my car "re-programed" by the dealer. The (!) button actually resets the tire pressure monitoring system according to the manual. Gotta love dealers.

Now that's a good one.
Unbelievable those guys get paid for telling such lies.
As if German engineers would leave a button with such a function visible for customers.

Then burn a DVD with MP3's, put it in the DVD drive and drive to your dealer. Tell your salesman you need to show him something on a test drive. While on the test drive, play MP3's from the DVD and tell him what he is listening to... Then tell him you have actually found out what the button is for...: It ejects people talking BS from the car. Press it, when the disc comes out stop the car, let him out and drive off...
Wouldn't that be a funny thing...?
