I just picked up my car from the dealer with four new tires, free of charge. I bought my car used; it is a CPO, Certified Pre Owned car. It had 23,000 miles on it when I bought it and the salesman said that new tires were put on the car for the CPO certification. My car now has 40,000 miles on it so the "defective" tires had 17,000 miles on them. They tried to give me new Bridgestone tires but the Service Bulletin states that Dunlop tires will be used for replacement. But the price was right.

I'd say you should be happy to get Dunlops again. The service bulletin references the mileage on the tires, not the car. Because of this, you might be eligible for new tires again if the current ones become extremely noisy. The noise usually starts around 7000 or 8000 miles -- I really enjoyed getting free tires every year while I had the old car!

Yes, I am very happy with the tires. I think the Service Advisor wanted Bridgestones so she wouldn't see me come back with this issue again. I told her I would see how these tires worked and that I might be back for replacements in a year or so.

By the way, I only found out about this Service Bulletin because of e60.net! Thanks for such a great forum!

HI all. I've got the Dunlop RFs and I absolutely LOVE THE RIDE! Not too firm, not too soft. We'll see how they perform but I've already talked to the dealer about the bulletin mentioned on this forum and they are prepared to replace them as required at any time. They have been wearing unevenly to the point they need to be replaced around the 5,000 mile point here in Germany.

I ordered new rims and tires for winter and for us-spec 5ers, RFs are the ONLY winter tire option at my dealership. They used to order non-RFs but received so many customer complaints about the "soft" ride, they stopped doing it. Customers were insisting there was something wrong with the tires when in fact, they were fine it was just the fact that the non-RFs were not what they were used to and they weren't happy with the ride.

I've read many arguments both for and against RFs on this forum but so far, I'm very impressed with the RFs. They also give my wife peace of mind which is very important.

RUN FLATS are on and are amazing.. much better ride then non runflats...

Dunlop sp 01 a/s.... RF... very nice..

I bought a 2004 BMW 545i CPO a month ago. It runs great with Dunlop tires so far.
Front: Dunlop SP Sport 01 DSST 245/40R18 93Y.
Rear: Dunlop SP Sport 01 DSST 275/35R18 95Y.

I see the "RunFlat" marking on the front tires but not on the rears. So the rear tires are non RunFlats ?
How can I tell ?

It says Max 53psi on all 4 tires.

The Dunlop run-flat tires have a mark on the sidewall, a circle with "RSC" inside it. That information is in the owner's manual. Also, DSST on the Dunlop tire means Dunlop Self Supporting Technology, their term for their run-flats. I am guessing all four of your tires are run flats. I would find it hard to believe that BMW would mix run-flat and non run-flat tires.
The recommended tire pressure is listed on the driver's door frame. My car shows 36 psi for the front and 44 psi for the rear. The maximum pressure of 53 psi is just that, the maximum allowed. It is not the recommended pressure.
Keep an track of the mileage on those tires. If they start to show abnormal wear or start to make a lot of noise you might be able to have them replaced by your dealer.
Good luck, welcome to the forum and happy motoring!

It depends on the size. I have the factory installed sport package 18" setup on the door it says: 36/front 44/rear .
After several phone calls i have an appointment @ my dealer this week for tire issue.
Thanks again.

How do the Dunlop RF compare with the Michelin non-RF PS2. I've heard the Michellin's are much better and transform the car. Hope they are not too soft.
